Sell into the build-vs-buy call
Every technical purchase competes with an engineer's estimate of how long it would take to build instead. Only the CTO settles that, and pitching below them means your case gets relayed by someone who never heard it.

Chief Technology Officers own the architecture, set the engineering roadmap, and hold the final say on what a company builds versus buys. Find their verified contact details, build lists, and send outreach emails to create meaningful relationships with them using Hunter.
Every technical purchase competes with an engineer's estimate of how long it would take to build instead. Only the CTO settles that, and pitching below them means your case gets relayed by someone who never heard it.
Observability, CI/CD, SOC 2 tooling, and vendor risk platforms get bought by whoever is accountable when an audit lands. Below enterprise scale, that is the CTO.
Agencies and dev shops pitching delivery capacity need the technical buyer, not procurement. A CTO holding a roadmap with no bandwidth behind it is the warmest conversation on your list.
Reach sitting CTOs, VPs of Engineering, Heads of Platform, and technical co-founders directly for search and advisory work, without going through a shared careers inbox that forwards almost nothing.
Hunter is a great tool for saving time and building pipelines and prospecting. Before we had Hunter in place I was spending a long time guessing emails and using up valuable time every day. The email verifier is also a game changer for our team.Sean Gallagher Commercial Account Executive at Lattice
From a blank filter to replies in your inbox.
Use Hunter's database of companies to match your ICP by industry, size, location, and tech, then find their CTO.
Every contact comes with a verified email address, a confidence score, and the public sources it was found in.
Save your CTO to a Leads list, then use Sequences to send personalized outreach without exporting anything.
Search from millions of companies and CTO in Hunter, then reveal verified emails. Sign up and build your CTO lists for free.
Build your CTO email listStart with Hunter's free plan, which includes monthly searches and verifications at no cost. Search the company domain in Email Finder, or open the company in Discover and narrow its contacts to the technical leadership, and either route returns a verified address with a confidence score.
First name and last name separated by a dot is the most common pattern, followed by first initial plus last name. Guessing still bounces, because the pattern varies by company and some CTOs sit on a different domain from the rest of the team. Hunter identifies the pattern a domain actually uses and verifies the address against it.
Pull the company up in Discover and filter its contacts by the Chief Technology Officer role. The person and their verified email address come back together.
The CTO owns the technology the company sells, so the product, the architecture, and the engineering team all report up to them. The CIO owns internal systems instead, which is IT and employee tooling. If your product ships inside someone else's product, the CTO is your buyer.
You can, and it starts decaying the day it is sold. A static file cannot tell you that a CTO left in March or that the company promoted a VP of Engineering above them. Building the list yourself takes minutes in Discover and gives you addresses that were verified when you pulled them.
Business-to-business outreach is permitted in most markets when you follow the rules that apply to the recipient. In the US that means CAN-SPAM, which requires accurate headers, a physical address, and a working opt-out. In the EU and UK, GDPR and PECR apply, and legitimate interest is the usual basis for business contacts. Check the requirements for the countries you send to.
Usually yes. At smaller companies the work sits with a technical co-founder or a VP of Engineering, so filter for those titles alongside Chief Technology Officer and your list still covers the companies that have not made the hire yet.
Open with something specific you found in their stack or their engineering blog, not a compliment. Being too sales-focused is now the top complaint among decision-makers at 65%, ahead of the 61% who cite irrelevance. Emails carrying two personalized details reply at 5.6% against 3.6% with none, and 67% say personalization drawn from public information makes them more likely to respond. Figures are from Hunter's State of Email Outreach report, based on 31 million emails sent in 2025.
Either genuinely short or properly explained, but not the length in between. Reply rates run high at 61 to 80 words, high again at 181 to 200, and weakest in the middle. Ask one clear question, or take the space to say what you replace and what it saves.
Use it to pick the targets, not to write the words. 69% of decision-makers say it bothers them when an email was written by AI, and manually edited emails reply at 5.2% against 4.4% for fully automated ones. Engineering leaders read generated output all day, so the tell costs you more on this list than on most.
Two, for three messages in total. A three-message sequence returns 6.8% against 3.3% for a single email, and the average falls once you go past three. The peak sat at four messages a year earlier, so tolerance for long sequences is shrinking.
Hunter's Email Verifier re-checks addresses continuously and returns them already verified, so what you reveal reflects the most recent check rather than a snapshot from whenever a file was compiled.
The confidence score estimates how likely an email address is to be valid and deliverable, and 95% or higher means Hunter is highly confident the address is correct. Lower scores are flagged so you can decide whether to send or verify further.
Browsing and filtering in Discover is free. Credits are spent when you reveal an email address, and the free plan includes enough to build a first list before you decide on a paid plan.
Yes. Export any list to CSV, or connect Hunter to your CRM to sync contacts directly. From there you can load them into Hunter Sequences or your own outreach tool.
